IN LOVNG MEMORY
Joseph Arthur Talbert, Jr.
May 15, 1972 - May 31, 1995
Joe was a very gifted and talented young musician, composer, and songwriter who reached out to help disadvantaged youth. He encouraged them to live a productive life style. In his efforts to accomplish this, and as the youth minister of music, he formed two groups: Triumph, a group of artistic young men who bellowed positive lyrics and played instruments, and S.O.F.T. (Sisters of Faith Tabernacle) who inspired audiences with elegance and spirit. Both groups performed at numerous influential gatherings and church functions in and around the Washington metropolitan area.
Joe also had the privilege of performing at the reknowned Kennedy Center and, later, the opportunity to perform, along with his groups, for the National Conference of Black Mayors, as well as the Mayor of the District of Columbia.
His story received widespread media attention on national television and through print media. Joe touched the lives of countless individuals and made a lasting impact. In honor of his memory, many became organ donors and contributed to the Joe Arthur Talbert, Jr. Foundation Scholarship Fund.
His memory still lingers in the hearts of many and, as a modern-day martyr, his legacy continues.
