Rev. Dr. J. Talbert is the Founder and Pastor of Faith Tabernacle of Prayer for All People, and has served in this capacity for 40 years. She was married to the late Joseph A. Talbert, Sr., and is the mother of Josina and the late Joseph Talbert, Jr., and has one granddaughter, Jasmine. Dr. Talbert is a native of Washington, DC and was educated in the District of Columbia schools, attended Howard University, George Washington University, and the Washington Bible College. She was ordained by Church of God in Christ and Tabernacle of Prayer for All People. She received her Doctorate of Divinity from the Mutual Baptist Missionary Association in 1987. Her honorary Doctorate of Humane Letters was conferred by Faith Christian University in 2007.She has been a pioneer to both women and men in ministry. With her undying love for God, she has offered spiritual guidance and counsel to many, and reached thousands of people from diverse ethnic backgrounds with the simplicity of the gospel of Jesus Christ.
Dr. Talbert actively participates in various programs that enhance and impact the District of Columbia community. Faith Tabernacle of Prayer has numerous ministries and outreach programs. She is the Executive Producer of Show Us What You Working With - a highly acclaimed informative television program which airs on District Cablevision, Comcast DCTV, and Host of the Looking Forward radio broadcast which airs on Radio Station WYCB, 1340 AM.Dr. Talbert was chosen to be a member of President Barack Obama's National African-American Clergy Group that works very closely with the White House Office of Faith-Based and Neighborhood Partnerships. She is the Dean of the Faith Tabernacle Bible Institute; Co-Chair of the governing Ecclesiastical Board of the Tabernacle of Prayer for All People, Inc.; and a member of the following boards: DC Department of Corrections Clergy Roundtable; Greater Prince George's Business Roundtable Committee; Advisory Board of the Council of Women Ministers; Collective Banking Group; and Howard University's National Minority Organ Tissue Transplant Education Program (MOTTEP). She also worked many years with The Honorable Congressman Jay Dickey on the distinguished Presidential Prayer Breakfast Committee for the President of the United States.
She has received numerous awards and accolades for her outstanding leadership in ministry that has stretched around the globe and for her strong commitment to community work in helping the least, the lost and the last. Highlights of the many accolades include being awarded the Champion of Change Award from President Obama which is part of the President’s Winning the Future Initiative, the distinguished Rosa Parks Award, and Woman of Excellence Award, also received by longtime civil rights heroine, the late Dr. Dorothy Height. Other recognitions have appeared in television and print media over the span of her ministry and community outreach efforts.
